I have learnt that you need four times as much water, twice as much money, and half as many clothes as you think you need at the outset -- Gavin Esler

A friend just gave me this cartoon, letting me know that if you replace "Anthony Bourdain" with "Chris Hunter", he feels like Rat when I'm talking about my trip.

I find this highly flattering.

Why did I start off by calling this blog "Waltzin' Matilda"? Well, it's an Australian phrase that basically refers to being a hobo or to wander the country looking for work. Although I'm not looking for a job, I do feel I'm going to be a little like a hobo, traveling the world with all my possessions in a bag on my back.

Also, the refrain of the song asks "who'll come a-waltzin' matilda with me?", which is a question I've been asking all my friends for the last couple of months.

But to reassure everyone, I do not plan on throwing myself into a billabong.
